Smoke Testing
Smoke is pushed through the sanitary system and comes out wherever there is an opening there should not be. It covers a lot of ground quickly and shows the faults on the surface, where you can photograph them.
Send a scope and we will price it. Drawings welcome.
What It Finds
- Storm inflow wrongly connected into the sanitary system
- Downspouts, area drains and sump pumps piped into the sewer
- Broken laterals and cracked mains, showing at the surface
- Uncapped or abandoned lines
- Defective or dry traps inside buildings
Why Inflow Is Worth Chasing
Every gallon of storm water in a sanitary system is a gallon pumped and treated at your cost, and it is what surcharges mains in heavy rain. Finding the connections is usually cheaper than building capacity for water that should never have been there.
Where smoke shows a defect underground, a camera survey confirms the extent before anyone specifies a repair.
Notice and Public Contact
Smoke testing works best when residents know it is coming, because a household with a dry trap will see smoke indoors and it will worry them. We will work with you on notice and timing so the calls you get are useful rather than alarmed.
